Judge Frederick J. Scullin, who presided over the trial of Albert W. Lawrence for fraud connected with several insurance companies he controlled in upper New York State, granted the convicted felon a two-week postponement before he must begin serving a 37 month prison term.
According to Albany’s Times Union, this delay, the fifth he’s been accorded since he was sentenced in June 2000, will allow the Bureau of Prisons to examine his medical records. He’s been diagnosed with stomach cancer that has spread to his liver and lymph nodes.
Prosecutors and prison officials have said that they will not consider, any change or commutation of his sentence until he is in custody.
