In a move to improve cooperation among law enforcement agencies, nine cities and towns in the Hartford area have formed the Metropolitan Traffic Services Unit to improve the enforcement of traffic laws.
The police Departments from each community will work together with Connecticut State Police and Federal authorities to set up checkpoints and joint initiatives aimed at reducing drunken driving, speeding, road rage and aggressive driving, and enforcing seat belt laws.
The ultimate goal of the new unit is to decrease the number of traffic accidents and the resulting injuries and deaths they cause. Its success would be welcome news to the State’s insurers.
