The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation announced a Springfield man has been sentenced for a misdemeanor charge of workers’ compensation fraud. Jeff Hamm was sentenced to three months incarceration, a $300 fine and court costs. The incarceration was suspended provided the fine and court costs are paid by Jan. 7, 2005. At the hearing, Hamm paid $11,742.01 restitution to BWC.
The BWC’s special investigation unit learned of possible fraud by Hamm when the bureau’s automated detection and intelligence team administered a cross-match with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services. The cross-match reportedly indicated Hamm was working while receiving workers’ comp benefits and the SIU confirmed he was employed by K-Force Professional Staffing as a registered nurse. Hamm suffered an ankle injury in October 2001 while working for Madison Correctional Facility.
