A North Carolina man has been arrested on numerous insurance fraud-related charges, according to a statement from the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI). Commissioner Wayne Goodwin announced the arrest of Michael Anthony McIntyre of Currie; he is charged with one count each of insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense and acting as an adjuster without a license in New Hanover County.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse McIntyre of fraudulently attempting to obtain more than $34,000 by submitting false information about damage to a Wilmington home to the North Carolina Insurance Underwriting Association (Coastal Property Insurance Pool) between October 2015 and January 2016. Investigators allege McIntyre acted as an adjuster without having a license to do so and that he intentionally inflated the repair estimate and instructed the homeowners to submit settlement checks directly to him.
McIntyre was arrested on May 21 and placed under a $10,000 bond.
